Examples of Aquarium Decor: Aquarium Decor Ideas using Static Vinyl Backgrounds and other decorations for Goldfish and Bettas.

In this post we are going to take you through some of the decorations that are mostly available to people for creating a decor style in their aquarium. We are focusing this post on what people are using for their Betta Fish tanks, what they could be using and also for typical beginner Goldfish tanks and what they could be using.
Setting up an aquarium for Goldfish using typical tank decoration items

Step One Aquarium Decor is an empty fish tank
Choose the aquarium based on the size of the Goldfish when they are fully grown. Comets are especially big, 20cm is common. Really Comets are best in ponds, if you are keeping a Fancy Goldfish they still grow big. 12cm to 15cm common and then add to that their big fancy tails. Goldies love to be able to swim around too so make sure the tank is going to be big enough. When they are tiny, first bought from the shop, they are fairly small, so you could start a couple, maybe 3 off in the tank size we are using for our example of aquarium decor.
Step 2 is adding substrate to your aquarium decor
This step we have added some substrate, we have also included a castle, a common ornament in fish tanks. We also have a silk plant and a real plant in this aquarium decor.

Step 3 Adding some other decorations

As you can see in this step there has been more substrate added along with another 3 or 4 fake plants, a cave looking this, and i’m pretty sure a treasure chest. Now this aquarium set up is pretty standard for a new fish tank owner, however there is a much better idea.
Adding a Background to this cluttered aquarium
Now I believe this tank looks ok, however there are a number of things that I don’t really think are a great fit for Goldfish. To begin with the gravel looks quite sharp. It’s chunky so easy for bits of food to fall between that a young goldfish might have trouble moving the gravel to pick up.
- The fish tank is very cluttered not leaving much swimming space for the fish
- The silk or plastic plants could easily be substituted for live plants. This helps with nitrates in the tank and also looks more natural. Yes the fish will have a nibble no doubt, but there are plants like Anubias or Java Fern that Goldies don’t like to eat.
We Tried These Aquarium Decor Ideas that we thought Goldfish Would Much Prefer
We decided to try a couple of our unique aquarium decor ideas that included static vinyl premium 4k hd backgrounds on the same setup just to see how much difference it makes for the aquarium setup. Would love to know what you think in the comments.

Wow what a difference this makes. I just love that background. We increased the amount of sand. The Goldies prefer picking through sand. We left the castle. Added 3 live plants that are all easily grown with little more than a splash of fertalizer each week and we left the castle.
I truly think any Goldfish would love this as it’s home. You can’t see cords or the wall when you put a background on their tank and it reduces algae growth. Fish also feel more secure, when they aren’t able to be clearly seen from every angle.

Now we switched over the background, added a rocky coral ornament and the beachy background and once again this looks so much better, in our opinion anyway.
Want to see one or two more?
Ok so here are two tanks styled with 2 of our very popular backgrounds. The first is aquarium decor idea featuring sponge bob one of the kids very fav themes for an aquarium. We have an entire range of Sponge Bob backgrounds and we are sure the kids will love them as much as we loved making them.

Aquarium Decor Ideas for Goldfish Lovers
And finally this aquarium decor is for the girly girl who wants her fish swimming in something that has soft girly colours and vibe to it. I’m loving this White Treehouse from our treehouse range of backgrounds.

As you can see in the aquarium decor of this fish tank, we have really only included a small amount of substrate, a plant and then the background and the fish are the star s of the show. This type of setup slows down the maintenance so much, and is perfect for beginners.
