This really happened. In the 1980s, a Hawaiian fisherman was caught illegally spearfishing a parrotfish. Instead of just photos or reports, the state literally brought the fish itself into the courtroom as evidence. The parrotfish became the star witness — and the fisherman was convicted.
This is one of the strangest, true legal cases in fishing history.
