Want to Create The Nemo Fish Tank Setup? But You Have Black Beard Algae?

Do you remember if the fish tank in Nemo had Black Beard algae? Your right, Disney wouldn't have algae problems. That's one for the common folk.
Well at least in this post your gonna find out why you have it and how to get rid of it. Also how to stop it coming back in the future.

3. Treat with Liquid Carbon or Algaecides
Spot-treat BBA with liquid carbon supplements. Use a syringe to directly apply the product to affected areas (while filters are off, to avoid spreading).
Algaecides, like those containing glutaraldehyde, can also help but should be used carefully to avoid harming fish and plants.

This method of attack should only be used as a last resort. By following the rest of this article, I believe your algae problem should be easy to get under control.

4. Introduce Algae Eaters
Some species eat BBA and can help control it:
Siamese Algae Eaters (Crossocheilus oblongus): One of the best options.
Amano Shrimp (Caridina multidentata): May nibble on younger algae.
Nerite Snails: Sometimes eat BBA, especially if food is scarce.

5. Maintain Water Quality
Perform regular water changes (25–50% weekly).
Clean your filter to ensure it’s running efficiently.
Avoid overfeeding your fish to prevent nutrient buildup.

6. Increase Circulation
BBA tends to grow in areas with stagnant water. Adjust your aquarium’s flow to ensure even circulation throughout.

7. Prevention
Keep a consistent maintenance schedule.
Avoid sudden changes in lighting or CO2 levels.
Balance nutrients with a good fertilizer plan if you have live plants.

My Best Suggestion: Pull everything out of the tank. Take out half the water. Change the wool, sponge etc. in the filter. Unless blocked, clean filter next time. Dip decorations in bleach solution. 1 part bleach to 20 parts water. Not the stones, gravel, just decorations. Wipe down inside glass. Put decorations back in, once rinsed in clear water. After dipping in a bucket of fresh water and dechlorinator. Replace the 50% water taken out. Go buy some plants. Put them in the tank. See if you need fertiliser in a couple of weeks. Put your lights on a timer for 6 to 8 hours a day max and if your fish are in direct sunlight, the next time your ready to do a big water chance, consider moving the tank to another spot.

What to do different to stop black beard Algae

  • Move tank away from windows, any direct sunlight. Sunlight causes excess nutrients to grow, quickly into algae.
  • New job. Daily, when feeding the fish, grab a fish net and scoop out any debris you can find. Like scooping the pool.
  • Once a week, choose a day, same day each week, top tank up with half a bucket of water. For evaporation.
  • Once a week, same day each week. Take 2 buckets of water out, add 2 buckets of water back in. Treat fresh water with dechlorinator. This job is quick and easy. Use one of those hand pump things to syphon the water, they are very easy. Link to amazon on word syphon.
  • I do these 2 jobs every week also. On Wednesday I do the top up. Every Sunday without fail, I take out two 5 litre buckets and add 2 new 2 litre buckets of water. I use ap water decorticator.
  • Feed your fish as much as they can eat in about 2 minutes. Do this 2 even 3 times a day. Just don’t let old food rot in the tank.

Having a tank like the tank in nemo
